Your Inaction Created The Rut You Live In

There are two types of people in this world: one who lets their life serve them and one who serves their life. In other words, some people make the most of their life by putting purpose behind their actions and some choose to live passively, letting life direct them to their destination.

Now, here’s the thing: the less conscious steps you make in your life, the more likely you are to live a life that doesn’t resonate with your core life values. The less action you take, the closer you get to living in a rut that keeps you from becoming the best version of yourself and stepping into your power.

Why Does Taking Action Matter?

Don’t get me wrong, I understand that taking action is not always easy, as it highly depends on your current life situation. I’ve been there. I’ve dealt with the struggle of nearly accepting defeat and living the life I felt I was handed. But the second I realized that letting life happen to me was the easiest way to lose my vitality and the opportunity to become my best version, taking became my priority.

When you take action, you signal to the universe and everything around you that you’re here to design the exact life you want to live. Your action lets you rewrite your history, make adjustments and changes to improve your life, and create your dream reality. Your action keeps you far from the deep rut you never want to find yourself in, or it gets you out of the rut you’ve been living in.

What Will Happen If I Don’t Take Action?

If you decide to not take action, and instead choose to let life dictate your path, your risk living in a constant rut that you can’t seem to escape. Every day you choose to not act on things that align you with your values, beliefs, and goals, you deepen the rut you live in.

How Can I Take Action Today?

Taking action doesn’t need to be complicated. My work and forthcoming book, You Deserve This Sh!t, is designed to make challenging aspects of your life and self-discovery journey feel simple.

Here are five ways you can take action today:

  1. Quit overthinking things: The more we overthink things, the more analysis we do on a specific decision or situation. This causes us to become paralyzed and keeps us from taking action on decisions that may change our lives forever.
  2. Focus on the compound effect: When you’re starting to take action, start small but keep it consistent. The compound effect is simply this: Small repeated actions compound into greater things over time. Start small and watch the domino effect of your action grow naturally.
  3. Remove the distractions: Distractions are everywhere. From our phones to TVs to computers, we are always being shown something to steal our attention. If you’re ready to take action and step into your power, remove the distractions from your life and get to work. One way I do this is by leaving my phone outside my office, which lets me take action on my daily to-do list.
  4. Use the one-minute rule: If something takes less than one minute, do it. Don’t come up with an excuse. When you think of something that can be done quickly, just do it right then and there. This will help train your mind to take action in motion instead of waiting and pushing it off for later (and to likely never do it). We’ve all been there.
  5. Use time blocks for your day: If you know there are things you need to complete and act on, time block your day accordingly. Time blocking is a method I use consistently to help me get more things done. For example, I time blocked one hour to start working on this article. For that window of time, all I focused on was this piece of work; nothing else. You can use this for just about any task.

What Will All This Action Do For Me?

Your action will not only help you complete important tasks, but it will let you take action on things that push the needle when it comes to your self-growth and self-discovery. Your action will help you step into your power and become the best version of yourself. Your action will put you in the driver’s seat of your own life and give you the pen to write your own story.

Nothing happens without action.
