Social Media Is Sucking The Life Out Of You

I assume you open your favorite social media app to pass time or find inspiration, right? You figure a couple of flicks of the finger will give you what you need, and then you’ll move on with your day. Ha. Only if.

Thirty minutes later you find yourself in a deep rabbit hole of cat memes, pathetic lip-syncing and quarantine prank videos, and the hottest tips to “grow your social media following.”

I only assume all of this for one reason: I’ve found myself opening my favorite social media apps to pass time or find inspiration, and soon enough I’m sharing a video of a parrot doing the fucking Macarena with my partner. And I sure as hell know I’m not the only one doing this. I guarantee it.

Time well spent, huh?

Social Media Isn’t Worth the State of Euphoria

First off, I’m not a negative nancy — I’m just being honest. If you want to take a couple of minutes every day and use social media for entertainment, do it. It’s not going to kill you.

But I’m telling you right now, it isn’t worth hours of your time. I’ve experienced it steal my valuable time right in front of my eyes. You do not deserve to waste hours of your life working that thumb muscle of yours on your phone.

Let me be your reminder that you are worthy of a more purpose-driven life.

There are more important things in life than the endless scroll, but some nasty societal pattern made both you and I think scrolling on our dopamine-firing phones would provide us with some sort of happiness. But all it provides is some BS state of euphoria that ends the second you exit the app — the same moment you realize aimless scrolling continues to suck the life out of you.

Stop Using Social Media As a Crutch

Every day you have 86,400 seconds to live. Once those seconds are gone, they’re gone. You don’t get that time back. Do you really want to waste a chunk of those precious moments buried in your phone?

I’ve recently found myself looking for my phone when I have downtime or nothing is actively happening in my day. Sure, it’s a great tool to market a new product, grow your business, and reach an audience to help more people. But I’ve realized it’s a terrible crutch to rely on when nothing is happening in your life, because, in the end, all it does is steal your vitality.

Let’s Leave It As This

For the record: I’m not the social media police. Use it as you wish. Your habits don’t impact my life. But I hope this article makes you think twice.
